Creme Brulee

In the trying new foods category, we get creme brulee. I don't usually like custards. This one was weird, because I liked the bite of mom's that I took, then didn't like the bite of my own that I took. Mine tasted like alchohol. When I said that, Kevin took mine and traded me... his tasted better. But I only liked the top, I didn't like the rest of it. So I guess overall I'd have to say "meh"

  1. The reason it tasted like alcohol is because the buffet used an alcohol based fuel source for the torch that caramelized the sugar on top. What happened was that not all of the alcohol fuel was consumed in the fire and landed on top of the food. This isn't a health hazard, that's why it's an alcohol based fuel after all. If it had been allowed to sit for another 5-10 minutes the residual alcohol would have evaporated from the food and left no lingering taste.
