An amusement park

Today I went to 6 flags over Georgia. It's early in the season so we were able to pretty much just walk from one ride to another without much waiting. A lot of it was really fun. The only problem came at the very end, really. I was too fat to fit in a roller coaster, but not enough so that I had to get off. Just enough so so that my back wasn't flush against the seat. It HURT. Nonetheless, I'd go again, which is good since I have a season pass now to there and white water.

Snorkeling

So part of today's aquarium experience was swimming with whale sharks and other fishies in the Ocean Voyager exhibit. I got there about an hour and a half early, so I wandered around looking at fish, and spent about a half an hour staring at the sea otters (my favorites!) Then I went for a swim test - which I failed, but I still got to do the swim with the gentle giants thing... so I was pretty nervous when I first put the regulator in my mouth, but by the time I got halfway around, I was used to it. Yes, I've used one before, but I'd forgotten what it feels like. And it is weird. So I put my face in the water, and there was this jack like right there in front of my face, and I jumped. But then I kinda calmed down and started looking around and it was seriously the most relaxing thing ever. we swam a figure 8 over the exhibit, and I actually bumped into a whale shark! And two of the manta rays came really close, too.

Occupy Savannah

Today was the first day of Occupy Savannah. Kiki and I went down to join the protests. It was good. I made a sign that said "Pro Life After Birth"  and joined a circle of people talking about their lives and how they've been affected by republicunt stupidity. Then we went to the streets, and yelled. A lot of cars honked at us, especially trucks, and trolleys. There was a lot of standing, and a lot of yelling. Kiki and I shared some pizza for lunch, then back for more of the same. People kept bringing us things at the protest like sammiches, and coffee, and jolly ranchers. It rained on and off all day. I ran into Dr. Skidmore-Hess while there, which was nice. :) We got two "full moons" from passerby. I'd guess 1 in 10 drivers honked at us or waved or cheered us. I couldn't help but thinking that if one in ten of those came and joined us, we'd be a huge movement. We finally left around 6:20 or so.

Quote of the day?

Synagogue

It was beautiful.

There were about 20 people there - I'm told there are usually more, but because it's the weekend before a high holy day, people don't show up. Anyway, that made me stick out like a sore thumb with a sign over my head screaming "noob!" I spoke briefly to the rabbi before the service. The first thing he asked me was if I had ever been to a synagogue before. I said no and he asked what brought me, so I explained briefly, and he was very welcoming. He introduced me to a few people, and I ended up sitting with one of the women there for the service. Lots of singing and praying in Hebrew followed - I'm pretty sure that made the sign over my head into a neon sign over my head. Anyway, there was a wonderful sermon about aging and listening to our elders. And then coffee and desserts. I was introduced to quite a few people.

Volunteer

For the last two weeks, I've been a volunteer at the Georgia Aquarium. I've done a shift at the information desk and a shift as a greeter. Both of these positions basically involve answering the questions, "where is the bathroom?" and "where is the exit?" as well as a few other things. The greeter position also hands out maps, and speaks to everyone on their way in. So far I'm loving it. I'm getting ready to take a few classes so that I can do gallery interpretation as well. One of my ultimate goals with it is to be allowed to take animals into the line and talk about the smaller animals the aquarium has before guests get into the aquarium. This requires taking all of the gallery classes that are available as well as a couple others. So I'm starting on that next week and I think I have all of them done by October 22nd. I'm really excited! I'm also working a couple of birthday parties in the upcoming weeks.

Swimming Every Week

Well, I do believe I've completed this one. The storms the other night made the weather a bit too cold for swimming anymore. I'm frustrated because I used to be able to swim better than I now can. However, I'm proud of myself for doing this.

A plum!

Every 2 weeks, the cleanest cabin wins a basket of fruit. This week, that was us and I got a plum. I've never had one before (I know, weird, right?) It was interesting. Not like "OMG What have I been missing" but I'd eat one again. *nods* This ticks off "Try 10 new foods" from my list. 32% finished - that's like 1/3rd of the way there. I may rethink a few of my goals now. And change ones I've definitely failed at, like having a level 80 WOW character since I turned off my WOW account.

Forgot to hit post on this...

Kevin and I went on a winery tour a few days ago. Their website said daily, but their front door sign said Wednesday-Sunday. Kevin had to do it today for guild rank, so we went and asked and they gave us a private tour. It was fun. I mean, nothing special, really but something to do, and kind of interesting. Then we got 5 free samples of their wine. I really enjoyed 4 of the 5. We bought 4 bottles (3 of the ones I liked, plus the one I didn't really like which Kevin did like). Usually I don't like wine because it feels sharp on my tongue. These didn't. So I have no idea what causes the sharpness usually. I always thought it was the alcohol since it's usually there with beer, too.

Visit A Brewery

Well we visited Stone Brewery today. I didn't think I liked beer, because I've never really found many I liked (the exception being Rhinehart's beerdegaard). I found two I liked today. Apparently I don't like the beers Kevin gives me because he doesn't like hopps, and I really do. Anyway, the guy really needed a microphone because I couldn't hear him at all. Then we had lunch at their restaurant. The food was OK. The brownie was good. As was the mac 'n beer-cheese.

Visit Atlanta

I'm in Atlanta, just for the weekend. I'm taking a test, and leaving my cat with my family until I get back here for good. So far it's been a good weekend. I went to Moes and then mom quizzed me on the test I'm about to take. And I've slept, because I took the redeye and didn't manage to sleep on it at all.

Swim With a Dolphin

101_0588

Today was one of the big ones on the list - one that I've wanted to do for years. I went to Sea World in San Diego and swam with a dolphin named Toby. Dolphins feel like slippery rubber. Anyway, we got to give a few commands, and then I got a hug. It was absolutely amazing. I highly recommend this to everyone.

Get an A(-)

Well, following my theory that an A is an A and these plus and minuses are stupid, I did accomplish this goal. So I'll finish UCR with a GPA of 3.6... not good, not bad.
